Overview
Experience the breathtaking beauty and incredible biodiversity of the Amazon with the 5-Day / 4-Night Manu Program. This adventure begins at the iconic confluence of the Madre de Dios and Tambopata rivers and immerses you in the heart of the rainforest.
Highlights include Monkey Island, night excursions to spot caimans, Kayak rides, eco-adventures like canopy walks and zip-lining, and visits to pristine lakes such as Lake Sandoval. You’ll also engage with indigenous communities to learn about their customs, traditions, and survival techniques.
The journey culminates at the famous “Collpa de Loros,” witnessing macaws and parrots feeding on mineral-rich clay at sunrise—an unforgettable wildlife spectacle. This tour combines adventure, wildlife observation, and cultural immersion for lasting memories.
Day 1 – Arrival & Monkey Island

- Pick up from airport or bus terminal; visit city viewpoints.
- 40-minute boat ride to the lodge.
- Monkey Island visit: observe and interact with capuchin and other monkeys.
- Evening “caimaneada”: river tour to spot caimans, nocturnal birds, and capybaras.
- Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 2 – Lake Sandoval

- Early boat ride to Lake Sandoval (40 min). Short hike to the control post and registration.
- 3 km guided walk through the forest: birdwatching, monkeys, reptiles, insects, and plant identification.
- Optional swim in the lake and riverside lunch.
- Rowboat tour to spot hoatzins, cormorants, anhingas, and playful river otters.
- Return to lodge; optional guided night walk to observe nocturnal wildlife.
- Dinner and overnight.
Day 3 – Indigenous Community & Rustic Fishing

- Breakfast at the lodge.
- Visit an indigenous family: observe daily customs, traditions, and help support local artisans by purchasing products.
- Afternoon rustic fishing along the river for catfish, sardines, piranhas, and other Amazonian fish.
- Return to lodge; group discussion or storytelling by the riverfire.
- Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 – Eco-Adventure & Kayak

- Canopy walk: 200 meters forest trail to a 35-meter-high canopy tower; birdwatching and natural observation.
- Zip-line activity: two 190-meter lines and a 100-meter suspended bridge; guided safety instructions included.
- Return to lodge for lunch; rest in hammocks with views of the river.
- Kayak activity on the Madre de Dios River: safety boat accompaniment; swimming opportunity.
- Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 – Collpa de Loros “Cachuela” & Departure

- Early morning boat ride (~1.5 hours) to the Collpa de Loros. Observe blue-headed parrots, macaws, and other species feeding on mineral-rich clay during sunrise.
- Return to lodge for breakfast.
- Final walk or visit to nearby forest/river areas depending on time.
- Boat and land transfer back to Puerto Maldonado airport, hotel, or bus terminal.
