Lake Sandoval Tour

Overview
Hidden deep within the Tambopata National Reserve, Lake Sandoval is one of the most stunning and unspoiled places in the Peruvian Amazon. Formed centuries ago by the Madre de Dios River, this oxbow lake offers a peaceful escape into a world rich in wildlife and natural beauty. The journey begins in Puerto Maldonado, where a boat ride along the river and a short walk through the rainforest lead to the lake’s calm, mirror-like waters surrounded by towering palms and vibrant sounds of the jungle.
While paddling across the lake, visitors can observe giant river otters, hoatzins, squirrel monkeys, colorful macaws, toucans, and black caimans resting by the shore. Occasionally, the deep calls of howler monkeys echo through the forest, adding to the experience. Guided by local experts, travelers learn about the area’s unique biodiversity and the delicate balance that sustains life in this ecosystem.
The Half-Day Lake Sandoval Tour offers an immersive encounter with nature, combining exploration and tranquility. As the tour ends and visitors return through the forest, the calm of the Amazon lingers, leaving lasting memories of one of the most biodiverse and magical corners of Peru.
