Manu National Park is a national park and biosphere reserve located in the regions of Madre de Dios and Cusco. It protects diverse ecosystems such as lowland rainforests, cloud forests and Andean grasslands.
The park is divided into the following areas: the restricted use zone (with pristine forests and native communities, access is granted to researchers only); the reserved zone (for recreation and research); the recuperation zone (for the recovery of disturbed areas) and the cultural zone (for human settlement).
Day 1.- Puerto Maldonado – Colorado – Blanquillo Lodge .-
Pick up from the airport (at time that you flight arrive to Puerto Maldonado) to continue in our comfortable bus and better route approximately 2 hours until Santa Rosa, after that we have to change the way for 30 minutes in dusty route to cross in a small boat the Inambari river, after crossing the river we take another car for one hour from Puerto Carlos to Colorado village. Here our boat is waiting for us and will take us 4 hours up the Madre de Dios river to Tambo Blanquillo lodge. Today we have the opportunity to see wildlife along the stick banks of the river, such as great egret, cocoi herons, purplish jays, black skimmers, black vultures, king vulture, dusky parrots, white or black caimans and some of the 13 species of monkeys that live in Manu. In the afternoon, we arrive to Tambo Blanquillo lodge, we have the accommodations in double rooms with share bathroom. Optional night walk to see spider, insects, frogs, snakes etc).
Day 2.- Macaw Clay Lick – Humming bird Lodge (Boca Manu).-
Early in the morning we go to the macaw clay Lick, approximately takes 10 minutes by boat and 25 minutes walking to the special watching camouflage. We bring our breakfast at the hiding place. The activity begins around 5:30 am with the small parrots and parakeet and later the big macaws. The Parrots and that macaw eat the clay which contains minerals that helps the stomach digestion that is the reason why hundreds of parrots, parakeets and macaws come to this special place. After we continues our trips by boat and have the opportunity to see many birds and animals in the river. In the afternoon we arrive to the lodge humming bird have the accommodations in double rooms bathroom and shower shared.
Day 3.-Humming Bird Lodge – Boca Manu Village – Limonal – Casa Matshiguenka.-
Today we have to wake up early to sail in a our boat and takes another river that is famous Manu river that is into the reserve area in the Manu National Park. After a half hour we stop at the check point limonal and show our entrance to the Park. During the boat ride we have the possibility to see the famous cat that is Otorongo or Jaguar, Capybaras, wild pig white and black Caimans sleeping on the beach, cocoi herons fishing at the edge of the Manu river, macaws, parrots, toucans, vultures, eagles and other species of birds. In the afternoon we arrive to Casa Matshiguenka that is a rustic lodge bathroom and shower are shared. Night walk.
Day 4. – Casa Matshiguenka – Salvador Lake.-
Early in the morning we go by boat just five minutes by the river and then explore the impressive primary forest that is going to the lake Salvador. There we have the possible to observe the giant river otters (Pteronura brasiliensis) family, the biggest black caimans, different species of monkeys which inhabit Manu (13 species), the prehistoric bird call hoatzin, king fishers, zig zag herons, macaws, parrots, snakes, spiders and many more species. After lunch we go to walk other side of the river Manu, here there is a trails to appreciate again the forest with biggest tree, palms and others. We spend the night in the rustic casa Matsiguenka shared bathroom and shower. Optional night walk.
Day 5. -Casa Matshiguenka –Boca Manu village – Colorado – Puerto Maldonado.-
Today we have to wake early in the morning, we start with our return to Puerto Maldonado, first by boat to Colorado village and then by car to Puerto Carlos, following crossing the Inambari River, we get our private bus to Puerto Maldonado, we will be arriving in the afternoon to Puerto Maldonado, this day you can take the bus to Cusco or Juliaca Puno or Arequipa. Or do you prefer sleep one night in Puerto Maldonado and take the flight next day, in this case we leave you at your hotel.
